Tan Son Nhat Airport re-enters the rankings after two years.
Tan Son Nhat International Airport (SGN), which had been out of the elite rankings for two years, has re-entered the top 50, ranking 45th in the 'Megahubs 2025' report by global aviation data analytics firm OAG.

Ho Chi Minh City Tan Son Nhat International Airport.
Now in its 10th year, the report assesses the transfer and connectivity capacity of major airports worldwide, based on flight data from September 2024 to August 2025. SGN has shown signs of recovery, rising from 54th place in 2024. This is attributed to the recovery in demand as Vietnam's largest economic gateway and the massive expansion of its infrastructure.
OAG calculates hub connectivity based on the busiest day in the global aviation industry. This study selected August 1, 2025, as the baseline date. As of that date, Tan Son Nhat Airport connected 94 destinations worldwide, offering a total of 8,348 valid connecting flight combinations.
Vietnam Airlines maintained its position as the key airline with a 37% share of airlines within the hub.
A decisive factor in the airport's ranking rebound is Terminal 3 (T3), which began operations in the second quarter of 2025. With an investment of approximately 11 trillion won, T3 will increase the airport's annual handling capacity to approximately 50 million passengers, structurally alleviating the terminal congestion problem that had persisted.
Since the new terminal went into operation, SGN's slot utilization efficiency and transfer connectivity have improved significantly, leading to an increase in the Megahub Index.
In the global rankings, London Heathrow Airport maintained its top spot for the third consecutive year, followed by Istanbul Airport and Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. Istanbul Airport boasted the most routes, with 327 destinations, but Heathrow retained its lead based on OAG's methodology, which emphasizes the ratio of actual connections to the number of destinations.
In Southeast Asia, Kuala Lumpur International Airport ranked fourth globally and first among low-cost carrier (LCC) megahubs. Singapore Changi Airport ranked 11th, and Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport 12th. Manila ranked 21st, and Jakarta 23rd.
Tan Son Nhat Airport's re-entry into the top 50 is interpreted as an indicator of Vietnam's growing influence in the Southeast Asian aviation market. With the transition to a dual-hub system, along with Long Thanh International Airport, scheduled to open in June 2026, Vietnam's air connectivity will face a critical test in its competition with existing regional hubs.
The industry believes that the future Megahub rankings will serve as a key benchmark for assessing the performance of Vietnam's aviation infrastructure expansion.
